Additional Notes: The most elaborately embroidered costumes of the Schaumburg region were worn in Lindhort. There were a number of different varieties, the most common featuring white or light blue embroidery on black. This example features much rarer red embroidery indicating that it would have been worn for a major church holiday, wedding or other important occasion together with a matching vest and apron also with red designs. The embroidery is further embellished with sequins and beads and edged with metallic trim. The final photo shows a woman wearing this style of shoulder shawl together with the full regional costume. There are some moth holes in the black base fabric, but they are not significant and do not affect the embroidery. If desired, they could be patched from the back and not detract from the piece in at way. As you can see in the images the top of the shawl gets covered by a large collar so only the edges and back would be visible when worn.
