Description
Origin: Slovakia | Kysuce area
Era: Early 20th century (circa 1910-1930)
Condition: very good; faint stains; suitable for both wear and display
Measurements (with garments laying flat):
Across front: 18″ between underarms
Length: 13″
Additional Notes: Simple linen or hemp homespun blouse from the Kysuce area of northern Slovakia. This is a region with a poorly documented traditional dress history as the folk costumes here were considerably more plain and less decorated than in other regions of Slovakia. This blouse, while simple, is a rare surviving example of the local style and shows how people attempted to embellish even their everyday garments with at least a little color and embroidery. Almost modern through its simplicity.
