Description: Highly detailed book documenting the regional folk costumes of Latvia. The book was originally published in Latvia in 1939 and reissued in Toronto, Canada in 1965 by the dance group Dizdancis. Includes information on the history and making of traditional costumes, photos, diagrams, weaving & embroidery techniques, and much more. The book is divided into 15 sections describing the ethnographic regions of Latvia with 24 color illustrations of the local costumes plus hundreds of black/white photos. At the end of the book there is a section of tipped in color photos that were added by the dance group when it was republished. There is also a chart with colored yarn samples for reference when making the costumes as explained in the book. A fantastic resource for anyone interested in Latvian folk dress and making traditional costumes.
