Additional Notes: A bright, eye-catching ensemble that would have been worn together with a white floral embroidered blouse and apron. While not made of identical fabrics (the vest is matte blue and the skirt is shiny), the two garments perfectly compliment each other. Cotton striped skirts such as this one came into fashion during the inter-war era and were a simpler alternative to similarly striped wool skirts previously woven at home. The final aesthetic is similar, but the technique was much simpler and allowed for considerable time saving during an era when commercially woven fabrics were becoming more accessible to the peasant population. Today, this bright ensemble looks both folksy and modern and is sure to delight any folk dress enthusiast.
