Additional Notes: A particularly nice example of a floral printed wool kerchief of the type worn all over eastern Europe. This example was collected in Slovakia, but identical scarves can be seen in the folk costumes of Greece, Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Germany, among other. Such kerchiefs are affectionately called “babushkas” in America after the elderly women who wore them once they arrived in the country.
