Additional Notes: A complete woman’s folk costume from the village of Vazec in the Liptov district of Slovakia. The costume includes a heavy linen blueprint skirt featuring a repeating pattern that is carefully pleated to create even rows of designs. The pieces are decorated with hand embroidery and various types of trim. There is also a band of decorative weaving sewn to the inside hem of the skirt as this would be visible for times when the edges pulled up and flipped over when worn with a special underskirt. Vazec dresses have a characteristic cut that features a tightly fitted vest, flared skirt and a wide panel on the front of the skirt that is intended to be visible on the sides when worn with the narrow apron.
